Douna takes further steps towards sustainability

Solar panels cover the roof of our premises. Over the course of a year, they generate more electricity than we consume ourselves. That provides a good foundation for our energy supply. The next step is to make better use of the electricity we generate.

That is why a battery storage system has been installed at our Hidalgoweg premises. The batteries store the solar power we generate for later use. This helps us better align the time when electricity is generated with the time when it is used.

This is particularly relevant now that the electricity grid in Leeuwarden is at capacity. Combining our own generation and storage gives us more control over our energy supply and makes us less dependent on electricity being supplied at the moment we need it.

Alongside the battery storage system, another step is complete: Siderius Heftrucks has delivered our new electric Clark L35XE forklift. Our internal logistics now runs on electricity too.

Our sustainability efforts extend beyond the building’s energy supply. They are also visible in daily work and in moving materials and components. The electric forklift is a practical example of this.

At Douna, we consider both what we make and how we work. Alongside attention to manufacturing, this includes taking a considered approach to energy use.

Battery storage and the electric forklift are two practical steps in that approach. From solar power on our own roof to electric transport within our business, we are putting sustainability into practice in several areas of our work.
