Chapter 01

From smithy to machine factory

  1. 1924

    The origins

    Firma v.d. Berg & Douna is established as a smithy in Leeuwarden’s Achter de Hoven district.

  2. 1937

    Douna gets its own name

    After Van den Berg leaves, the business continues as Douna Machinefabriek en Constructiewerkplaats.

  3. 1987

    A new phase and engineering

    With no successor within the family, the company is sold. Douna Engineering is founded to continue machine development.

  4. 1990–1998

    Gas industry and quality

    From 1990, Douna focuses more on the gas industry. Following a new owner in 1997, ISO 9000 certification follows in 1998.

  5. 2002

    Moving to De Hemrik

    Douna moves to the De Hemrik industrial estate in Leeuwarden.

Chapter 02

Renewal and continuity

  1. 2003–2004

    A developing group

    Eurometaal in Zaandam is acquired in 2003; Logtech in Hoogeveen follows in 2004. Douna thereby broadens its activities.

  2. 2010

    Units brought under Douna Group

    The different business units are brought together under Douna Group. Logtech continues as Douna Projects and the Zaandam factory as Douna Precision.

  3. 2019–2020

    New owner, new machines

    Ale Procée’s Alfa & Omega Investment acquires Douna Machinery in 2019. Extensive modernisation of the machine fleet follows from 2020.

  4. 2022–2024

    Moving forward together and a hundred years

    Machinefabriek Van der Velde Boerhof in Appelscha becomes part of Douna Group in 2022. Douna marks its centenary in 2024.

  5. June 2026

    Agreement on an acquisition

    In June 2026, Douna announces that Arno Monincx, through family investment company Famon, has reached agreement with Ale Procée on the acquisition of Machinefabriek Douna and Machinefabriek Van der Velde Boerhof.
