Douna Machinery being acquired by Famon
Through his family investment company Famon, Arno Monincx has reached an agreement with Ale Procee to acquire Douna Machinery, comprising Machinefabriek Douna in Leeuwarden (23 employees) and Machinefabriek Van der Velde Boerhof in Appelscha (7 employees).
Douna Machinery has been a respected name in metalworking, welding and machine building for more than 100 years. Operating from its two locations, the company provides high-quality, ISO-certified manufacturing services in market segments where precision, innovation and customization are key. Douna Machinery translates complex customer requirements into high-quality machines, machine parts and metal components for demanding industrial applications across Europe. Long-standing customer relationships, technical craftsmanship and state-of-the-art machinery form the foundation for quality and sustainable growth.
The family business Douna was led by various generations since its foundation in 1924, until it was sold outside the family in 1987. In the following decades, the company continued to develop and moved to its current location in Leeuwarden in 2002. In 2003, Eurometaal in Zaandam was acquired, followed by Logtech in Hoogeveen in 2004. In 2010, all divisions were merged under one name to form Douna Machinery. In 2019, Douna Machinery was acquired by the current owner: Alfa & Omega Investment, owned by Ale Procée. An extensive modernization of the machinery was implemented under his leadership, starting in 2020. In 2022, Machinefabriek Van der Velde Boerhof joined Douna Machinery, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024.
With 18 years of service at Aalberts N.V., of which 8 years on the management board, Arno Monincx has extensive experience in the manufacturing industry. “Our ambition is to guide Douna into its next phase of growth, building on its skilled and motivated workforce and modern machinery, under the leadership of Hendrik Wijnja and his management team.”
Hendrik Wijnja has been working at Machinefabriek Douna for 24 years and is making the move from technical director to managing director.
“I am pleased that, after careful consideration, we have found a committed new owner with market knowledge and an interest in the long-term development of Douna,” said Ale Procée. “I would like to thank everyone for their tireless efforts over the past years, and I am convinced that the existing management team, led by Hendrik and supported by Arno, will be successful in taking Douna to the next phase of growth.”
